The Far Eastern Federal District is a federal district of the Russian Federation in its Far East.
Established by decree of the President of the Russian Federation of May 13, 2000. This is the largest federal district in terms of territory. In the district, almost all subjects (except for the Amur Region and the Jewish Autonomous Region) have access to the sea, and one subject (Sakhalin Region) does not have a land border with other subjects and the main territory of Russia. Another feature of the district is the presence of land borders with the PRC and the DPRK, as well as sea borders with Japan and the USA. In addition, all types of subjects of the Russian Federation are represented in the federal district (except for the city of federal significance), including the only autonomous region in Russia (Jewish) and the only autonomous region in Russia that separated from the (Magadan) region (Chukotka). One of the three federal districts in which there is not a single millionaire city. In the Far Eastern Federal District there is also the Amur Region - the only region in the Russian Federation whose name is different from the center not due to renaming or unification/division of constituent entities of the Russian Federation. The administrative center of the district (with the headquarters of the Administration of the Far Eastern Federal District) Khabarovsk is the largest (since 2015) city in the district in terms of population, traditionally has the greatest attractive force in intra-Far Eastern migrations
