My law is not to argue with the wind, it knows which way it blows, but we, stylists, must only accurately determine its direction.

Gianni Versace

A Brief History of the House of Versace

The founder of the Versace Fashion House (Versace), Gianni Versace, was passionate about fashion and sewing since childhood, and often spent time in the Francesca Versace Elle fashion store, which belonged to his mother. Parents wanted Gianni to become an architect. He even entered the architectural university, but dropped out and continued helping his mother in the store. In 1972, Versace is noticed by a wealthy Milanese businessman and offers him a job. The fashion designer moves to Milan. Four years later, Gianni's older brother Santo moves to Milan. He helps his brother create his own company called Gianni Versace SpA. Within a few years, Gianni gained worldwide fame and multimillion-dollar fees. However, they did not turn the head of Versace, who remained a simple person in life and communication. The range of Versace's creative activities is quite wide: under his own name he produced perfumes, furs, leather goods, and he also sewed costumes for opera, ballet and theater productions. On July 15, 1997, Gianni Versace was killed on the threshold of his own home by serial killer, homosexual Andrew Cunanan, who committed suicide a few days later. The reasons for the murder remained unclear. The reins of the company were taken over by Gianni’s sister, Donatella, who still runs the company to this day.
