Ceramic tiles and slabs for flooring and wall coverings include both ceramic products and slabs made from natural stone or concrete blocks. According to EN 12004.
Ceramic tiles and slabs (keramische Fliesen und Platten): Thin-walled products made from ceramic mass and/or other inorganic materials. According to EN 14411.
Note 1 . — Ceramic tiles and slabs are used mainly for flooring and wall cladding. As a rule, they are molded at room temperature by extrusion (method A) or by semi-dry pressing (method B), other molding methods are also possible. After this, they are dried and fired at the temperature necessary to achieve the required performance. Ceramic tiles and slabs can be glazed (GL) or unglazed (UGL) and are non-flammable and lightfast.
Note 2 . — Water absorption of ceramic tiles and slabs that are heavily sintered to a high density (or containing porcelain) is less than 0.5%.
