Defects falling into this category include all those “pathologies” that affect technical and/or aesthetic characteristics. In some cases, such defects affect the aesthetic qualities of the tile, in others, they have a destructive effect on its functional properties.
The defects discussed in this chapter are “mechanical” damage to the lined surface that occurs after a certain period of time, usually too short (usually after a year or two, sometimes after a few months).
This defect represents differences in the height of adjacent tiles (“small steps” to make it clearer, although in most cases this is an exaggeration), thus the surface does not meet the requirements of flatness, continuity and uniformity.
In this case, the cladding surface is already damaged at the time of moving and these damages (abrasion, cracks, stains, scratches, damage due to chemicals) are visible on the surface, in other words, the cladding is in poor condition.
The user, after completing the tiling, discovered that the floor differed, in particular its aesthetic characteristics, from the expected results. This can only be a “subjective” opinion, that is, the lined surface under certain conditions makes an unpleasant impression on the user, which was not taken into account when choosing the tile. Tiles may also differ for objective reasons, for example, in tone, class of material, etc.
