On June 30, 2016, the Association of Ceramic Materials Manufacturers (APKM) held an industry meeting dedicated to protecting the Russian ceramic tile market with technical regulation tools. The event was attended by leading industry representatives, technologists and managers of various levels of ceramic tile manufacturing companies.

In general terms, the situation with industry technical regulation can be presented as follows. Today in Russia there are several standards regulating the production of facing ceramic tiles, including:

- GOST 6141-91 “Glazed ceramic tiles for interior wall cladding. Technical conditions" ;
- GOST 13996-93 “Ceramic facade tiles and carpets made from them.
Technical conditions"; - GOST 6787-2001 “Ceramic tiles for floors.
Technical conditions"; - GOST 27180-2001 “Ceramic tiles. Test methods".

At the same time, many manufacturers, when producing their products, are guided by European standards ( EN 14411 and EN 10545), or rather by their authentic translation made by our Belarusian friends (RUE Stroytekhnorm).

The problem of updating existing GOSTs and their discrepancies with European standards is especially relevant when domestic manufacturers enter the foreign market. In particular, the Kerama Marazzi company has plans to develop the export of its products abroad. Her director of marketing and advertising, Viktor Arkadyevich Osetsky, spoke about this. In this case, the Russian manufacturer is interested in obtaining CE marking (French Conformité Européenne - European conformity), which logically implies an interest in bringing Russian standards as close as possible to European standards. The imperfection of the regulatory framework also has a negative impact on the domestic market. President of APKM and head of the Scientific Center for Ceramics VNIISTROM Galina Yakovlevna Dudenkova proposed combining industry efforts to develop a system of complete regulatory documentation that meets the aspirations of Russian manufacturers. The practice of APKM in the field of technical regulation has proven that maximum efficiency from such work is achievable by involving in the process of developing industry standards the largest possible number of enterprises interested in creating high-quality, working GOSTs.

Almost all meeting participants accepted the proposal to begin work in two directions: the development of authentic EN 14411 and EN 10545 national standards while simultaneously harmonizing existing GOSTs. APKM leaves open the possibility of joint work not only to the members of the Association, but also invites all interested enterprises to take an active part in this work, which can ensure in the future the preservation and increase of the market share in this type of product.

The Association of Ceramic Materials Manufacturers (APCM) was created in 2009 with the goal of uniting manufacturers of wall ceramics in order to achieve positive results in terms of implementing policies to promote their products. It unites the largest manufacturers with a geographical location from Kaliningrad to Novosibirsk, the largest production facilities in the Central part of Russia. APKM includes the Scientific Center for Ceramics VNIISTROM (based on and staffed by highly professional scientists VNIISTROM named after P. P. Budnikov), the Association maintains close contacts with leading specialized scientific, educational and research institutions (including Russian Chemical Technology University named after D I. Mendeleev, TsNIISK named after V. A. Kucherenko, Research Institute of Building Physics RAASN, Research Institute Mosstroy, other authoritative institutes).
