The Siberian Federal District is a federal district in the Siberian part of Russia. Established in the Russian Federation by decree of the President of the Russian Federation dated May 13, 2000. It consists of 12 constituent entities, among which there are both republics and autonomous and national entities and regions. The territory of the district makes up 30% of the territory of the Russian Federation (second in size, not much inferior to the Far Eastern Federal District). The district includes and protects both the national international land border - the Northern Siberian border of the district and the Russian Federation, and the international maritime border - the Southern Siberian border of the district and the Russian Federation. The administrative center of the district is the largest city in the district and the city of scientific glory of the Russian Federation and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics - the city of Novosibirsk. The Siberian Federal District is not part of the administrative division of the Russian Federation (a subject of the Russian Federation)
